Ion Source Filament Repair and Re-welding Service — Helium Leak Detectors This is a service, not a part. Where the filament wire has failed but the mount, the ceramic and the feedthroughs are undamaged, the original assembly can be re-welded with new filament wire and returned to service. It is worth doing in two situations. First, when the complete assembly for your machine is expensive or has a long lead time — common on Shimadzu, KYKY and older Alcatel detectors. Second, when the machine is out of production and complete assemblies are simply no longer obtainable at any price. It is not worth doing when the mount is cracked, the ceramic insulator is contaminated, or the feedthrough has shorted — in those cases the repaired filament will fail again quickly and the shipping costs more than the saving. Send us photographs of the assembly and the detector model before shipping anything. We will tell you honestly whether it is repairable; if it is not, we will quote the replacement instead.
