R3428301 Ion Source Filament — Agilent / Varian C15, VSC15, VS032, PD03, PR03 Ion source filament for the Agilent — formerly Varian — helium leak detectors: C15, VSC15, VS032, PD03 and PR03. Agilent carries it as R3428301. These are yttria-coated iridium filaments, not plain tungsten. The coating lowers the work function so the filament emits at a much lower temperature, which buys two things that matter in a leak detector: far longer life, and survival of an air inrush that would instantly oxidise a hot tungsten wire. It also means the coating is the part that wears — handling the filament with bare fingers or wiping it damages the emitting layer directly. Replace when the detector loses sensitivity with normal vacuum readings, when calibration will not complete, or when the controller reports low emission. Recalibrate against a calibrated leak after fitting. Supplied as a Taixing-manufactured equivalent, from one piece.
